Baby bird

I’ve been experimenting with homeschooling. Nothing as serious as Spelling Bee champs decked out in homespun skirts singing hymns or anything. And is it just me or are those kids kind of creepy?
My mom’s an early childhood education specialist, so I’ve been relying on her training and my gut to craft a little toddler program for Z. I try to incorporate reading, counting, arts and music, and a little science.
This month the theme is: “Things in Nature.” We’ve read books on plants, bugs, and trees. We go on long nature walks. We planted strawberries in the garden.
Today we went to the Playseum on the Hill and painted a birdhouse.

I was so proud of baby bird for sticking with it (though she was frustrated that she couldn’t eat the paint or tag walls). Looking forward to hanging her birdhouse in our garden.

About domesticpolichick

My life is a crazy jumble of sitcom-level domestic hijinks and fast-paced political reporting in the nation's capital. Breastfeeding while doing a phone interview with a senator...yep, I've done it and no, I won't reveal the name. Toddler calling a member of Congress on the cell..yeah, that really did happen. Pregnant in high heels on Capitol Hill trying to chase down a particularly grumpy senator, yeah...that was nuts. But what can I say? I'm just one domestic polichick trying to figure out the work-life balance.
